IT Manager

Location: Carroll County, Virginia

Role Overview:

At Pluck’d, we’re building a massive, state-of-the-art, 65-acre greenhouse in Carroll County, Virginia — a facility designed to revolutionize how fresh produce is grown and delivered. While our first tomatoes won’t roll off the vine until 2026, we need a talented IT Manager now to help us lay the digital foundation for success.

This is a highly hands-on, on-site role, where you’ll be the go-to person for everything from setting up laptops to managing greenhouse automation systems. You’ll oversee core business IT needs like networking, cybersecurity, and employee systems, while also working with specialized greenhouse technology like Hoogendoorn climate controls and packhouse automation.

As Pluck’d grows, you’ll play a key role in introducing cutting-edge ag-tech innovations — from AI-driven operations to robotics — shaping the future of how our facility runs.

If you love solving complex tech challenges and are excited to bridge traditional IT with the future of smart farming, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

Business IT Systems

  • Build and manage Pluck’d’s IT infrastructure, including networking, Wi-Fi, servers, and cybersecurity systems.

  • Set up and maintain employee hardware and software, including laptops, printers, and business applications.

  • Establish data backup, storage, and disaster recovery protocols.

  • Develop policies and best practices to protect company data and ensure compliance.

Greenhouse & Packhouse Technology

  • Configure and maintain Hoogendoorn greenhouse control systems for climate, irrigation, and crop optimization.

  • Oversee packhouse automation technology to ensure smooth produce processing and packaging operations.

  • Collaborate with operations and growing teams to troubleshoot and resolve tech-related issues quickly.

  • Work directly with vendors and external tech partners to implement upgrades and new systems.

Innovation & Future Growth

  • Explore emerging technologies — AI-driven analytics, predictive maintenance, robotics — to drive efficiency and sustainability.

  • Identify opportunities for automation and data-driven improvements across greenhouse and packhouse operations.

  • Build scalable IT systems that can support Pluck’d’s growth over the next decade.

____________

Qualifications & Skills:

Must-Have:

  • 5+ years of IT experience, including networking, cybersecurity, and systems management.

  • Hands-on expertise with hardware and software setup, troubleshooting, and support.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills to support cross-functional teams.

  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and external tech partners.

Nice-to-Have (but not required):

  • Experience with greenhouse or controlled-environment agriculture technology, especially Hoogendoorn systems.

  • Familiarity with packhouse automation or production facility technology.

  • Interest in AI, robotics, and ag-tech innovation.

  • Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Cisco, AWS).
